At Cross Creek Hospital, our goal is to provide compassionate, results-based care for our patients and residents. To that end, we have developed a series of specialized treatment tracks.
What Is a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)?
Learn why partial hospitalization programs are beneficial to adults who are struggling with mental health and substance use disorders
A partial hospitalization program (PHP) provides people who are struggling with mental health and addiction challenges with a structured, high level of care without the inpatient, residential component. Patients receive care for several hours a day every day for the duration of the PHP, which may include group therapy, individual therapy, and other therapeutic interventions depending on their level of need. Patients typically go home or to a non-residential or non-inpatient setting at night and on weekends and may also meet with a medical provider or psychiatric nurse practitioner to discuss medication management or other medical needs depending on their specific care plan.
Patients can step down to the PHP from an inpatient or residential program, but that is not a requirement to participate in a PHP. Anyone can be assessed for admission into our PHP based on their level of need. At Cross Creek Hospital, we are committed to providing age-appropriate care through specialized treatment paths that are developed for each patient’s specific recovery needs. Our specially trained staff works closely with all patients to carefully assess their care goals before admission.
Why Choose a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)
Why choose a partial hospitalization program at Cross Creek Hospital in Austin, TX
At Cross Creek Hospital, we understand that the many ways in which our patients heal are just as diverse as they are. That is why we offer various levels of care combined with multiple specialized treatment tracks. Our partial hospitalization program (PHP) offers an intensive level of care for people who are experiencing severe addiction or mental health challenges but who do not need the round-the-clock care of a residential or inpatient program. Patients who participate in a PHP receive regular care from mental health and medical professionals but have the flexibility to spend evenings and weekends at home or another non-residential or non-inpatient environment.
The unique structure of a PHP allows patients to gain support for their mental health or substance use challenges both within the PHP through group therapy sessions and other therapeutic interventions and outside the PHP through their communities, whether at home, at work, or with friends. Patients can immediately apply the coping skills they learn in their group therapy sessions to real-world settings, bringing any feedback or questions right back to the PHP. And patients can share support and advice with others who might be living with similar experiences during their daily group therapy sessions. This builds a much safer and more supportive environment for patients to transition to their daily lives.
Whether a patient is transitioning from a higher level of care or could benefit from more structured support than the traditional outpatient setting provides, Cross Creek Hospital’s PHP can help adults who are facing mental health and substance use disorders start to heal. We believe that every patient has their own unique strengths, needs, and goals, and we can help you or your loved one find the path to healing that’s right for you.
