Detox Program & Addiction Treatment Center in Austin

Located in Austin, Texas, Cross Creek Hospital Together with Ascension Seton offers an on-site medical detoxification program for adolescents ages 12-17, adults ages 18-64, and senior adults age 65 and older. Our comprehensive detox program is designed to help alleviate painful symptoms and pave the way for emotional healing and lasting change.

About Detox

Detoxification, or detox, is often the first step in receiving treatment for substance use disorders. During the detoxification process, patients can rid their bodies of harmful, addictive substances. The goal with detox is to help a person achieve stabilization so that they can focus on the therapeutic components of their care.

Our medical team monitors patients in our detox program round-the-clock to ensure their safety and minimize their discomfort. While everyone completes detox at their own pace, the average length of stay in our detox program is about seven days. Our program includes a variety of exclusive services, such as:

  • 24/7 monitoring
  • Customized care plans
  • Daily assessments
  • Discharge planning
  • Therapeutic support

About Our Detox Program in Austin, TX

Addiction can impact a person’s mind and body in ways that can make recovery feel out of reach or even impossible. An addictive substance can trigger a surge of dopamine in a person’s brain. Over time, the person can become dependent on the substance, and they may struggle to function without it. When they reduce or stop their drug or alcohol use, they can experience extreme withdrawal symptoms. This can discourage the person from seeking professional help and can lead them back to using or abusing the substance.

Our Austin-based, on-site medical detox program is available for adolescents, adults and seniors who need help safely navigating the initial stages of recovery from substance use disorders. Our compassionate care team works closely with each person to help them manage the physical effects of drug and alcohol withdrawal, which may include:

  • Chills
  • Fatigue
  • Fever
  • Headaches
  • Insomnia
  • Muscle aches
  • Nausea
  • Sweating
  • Tremors
  • Vomiting

Our clinical team can provide the appropriate medications to help patients address these and other withdrawal symptoms. Because everyone responds to medication differently, we determine which medication best meets a patient’s needs after carefully assessing their unique situation. Certain medications can alleviate cravings and withdrawal symptoms without causing any euphoric effects. Depending on the specific circumstances, patients may be prescribed medications such as:

  • Buprenorphine
  • Clonidine
  • Suboxone®

In addition to taking medication to ease withdrawal symptoms, patients in our detox program have the option to participate in our therapeutic offerings, which can help them address the long-term psychological aspects of addiction. Patients can participate in therapy sessions led by licensed therapists, where they can learn how to:

  • Develop healthy boundaries
  • Process traumatic experiences
  • Recognize personal triggers
  • Strengthen their coping skills

We also offer experiential therapies, such as art therapy, music therapy and yoga. These experiential therapies provide patients with additional outlets that can help them relieve stress and promote individual healing and growth.

After completing our detox program, patients can seamlessly transition to our inpatient program, where they can continue to receive therapeutic support and medical attention.

Our Specialized Adolescent Detox Program

We understand that adolescents who are facing substance use disorders need more than just medical care as they begin the journey to recovery. They also need structure and support that is tailored specifically to their age group. In our Texas adolescent detox program, young people can receive specialized care and attention. Our experienced team works closely with each patient in the adolescent detox program to create a customized care plan based on their unique situation and treatment goals.

Through our adolescent detox services, we help young people ages 12-17 safely manage the intense discomfort that is often associated with withdrawal. Patients can also participate in therapy sessions, which can help them address the underlying psychological factors that may contribute to the development of substance use disorders. Our goal is to help each young person in our care build a foundation for a happier, more hopeful future.

Is Detox Right for Me?

Choosing to receive detox services is a deeply personal decision, and an extremely important one. We encourage you to reflect on a few things as you decide whether to seek care:

  • Are you mentally and emotionally prepared to take the first steps toward recovery?
  • Do you think that your current substance use is interfering with your ability to function on a daily basis?
  • Do you have loved ones who can support you as you go through the withdrawal process?
  • Have you noticed physical symptoms like anxiety, nausea, tremors or sweating when you’re not using substances?
  • Have your past attempts to quit using substances on your own been unsuccessful due to experiencing overwhelming withdrawal symptoms?
  • If you choose not to enter a detox program, how will you ensure your safety?
  • What could happen to your health if you delay or avoid seeking care?

If you are still unsure whether you should enter a detox program, speaking with a member of our admissions team can offer clarity and reassurance. One of our admissions specialists is available 24/7 to discuss your specific situation and help you find the program that best fits your needs, whether that is detox or another level of care. At Cross Creek Hospital Together with Ascension Seton, our overarching goal is to help each patient achieve a brighter, healthier tomorrow.
