When a person has been abusing a drug for an extended length of time, his or her body changes its internal chemistry in order to accommodate the presence of that drug. As a result, when a person then attempts to abstain from abusing this drug, his or her body must readjust to functioning without the drug present. This readjustment process is known as withdrawal, and it often involves several uncomfortable symptoms.
At Cross Creek Hospital, we recognize that the first step to overcoming a substance addiction is clearing out one’s system by going through the withdrawal process. As a result, we are proud to provide comprehensive detoxification treatment for individuals who are seeking to overcome substance abuse. Our detox program, which is designed for men and women ages 18 and older, is an ideal place for individuals to take the first step towards sobriety. Detox stays typically range in duration from a few days to a week or more, though the process and length of stay is different for each individual. During detox, patients live at Cross Creek and are under the care of our treatment team.
Detox at Cross Creek includes a range of interventions designed to ensure that each patient’s withdrawal process is as safe and comfortable as possible. Daily physician visits allow the doctor to track individuals’ progress through withdrawal and provide an opportunity to prescribe medications to alleviate withdrawal symptoms. In addition, our detox program offers 24-hour nursing care and medication management services for individuals who require medications.
During detox, we offer patients the opportunity to participate in numerous therapeutic activities as they are able. Groups, such as our psychotherapy group, process group, nurse education group, and goals group, allow patients to support and be supported by each other and develop skills for long-term sobriety. In addition to these groups, we also offer recreation therapy groups and gym time so that individuals can involve both their bodies and their minds in their recovery effort.
Although choosing to begin detox can be a difficult decision, we honor the courage required to seek treatment. If you or one of your loved ones might benefit from our care, contact us as your soonest convenience and begin the journey to lifelong sobriety.
